Ana Monroe

I am an artist based in Northern Ireland whose work is inspired by memory, landscape and a sense of belonging.

My semi-abstract paintings begin with fragments of remembered places from my childhood, combined with scenes from the landscape that surrounds me today. As someone who has lived between two countries, I am interested in the connections that exist between them and the way familiar shapes, colours and textures can evoke a sense of home.

Eastern motifs, traditional architecture and colour palettes from my early years often find their way into my work, sitting alongside influences from the Northern Irish landscape. I also incorporate recycled paper and natural materials such as straw and seaweed, allowing the physical qualities of the work to become part of the story.

Through painting, I seek to bridge two places, exploring how memory and experience shape our identity and how different landscapes can hold surprisingly familiar echoes of one another.
